The Docks is a digital and physical installation in the center court of The Southlake Mall, Merrillville, IN. Intended to be a place for families to gather and take a break from their shopping experiences, we created an entertainment space with a relaxing ambience.
The installation takes inspiration from a traditional “parkscape” and is centered around an interactive, digital river. The digital river flows through the space for people to play with and even walk on top of the LED displays. This interactive experience allows visitors to create custom fish and flowers at one of the seven tablet stations or skip virtual stones and watch them float down the virtual river. The Docks also features a “park-like” seating area, planters and vertical LED displays to depict trees swaying in the wind or the changing of seasons.
