For 605 Third Avenue, we created architectural content for a technology installation. The idea was to create a story for the public, its beauty in the content. The design straddles the line between corporate restraint and contemporary culture to create a playful, bold identity for 605.
To create an environment that would instill a moment of reflection, us at the LAB + Rockwell Group conceived of a lobby concept that drew inspiration from the shifting, meditative colors of kaleidoscopes. The lobby represents a transitional environment between the city and the office, a brief reprieve from the bustle of the street and the work that lies ahead.
We designed two oversized digital glass windows comprised of a grid of LCD tiles which flanked the entry. Custom software generates abstract content, ranging from patterns driven by real-time weather to algorithmically derived geometry. The windows are comprised of newer technology with switchable glass.
